BISADA: The Gautam Budh Nagar district administration and police on Monday inaugurated a kabaddi tournament in Bisada, which they have organised with the aim of restoring communal harmony after the lynching of Mohammad Akhlaq by a mob over rumours of beef eating and storage.
It had participants from the hamlet in the eye of the storm, and nine other neighbouring villages. The 12-team tournament was inaugurated by district magistrate N P Singh and senior superintendent of police (SSP) Kiran S. Singh said their main intention was to re-establish the atmosphere of communal harmony among locals, by making local youths play against each other.
Noida Police had earlier coordinated with representatives of the shortlisted villages to facilitate the preparations, in association with Arjun Singh, kabaddi coach of the junior India team. Each team participating in the Sadbhawna Kabaddi tournament, comprises 10 members - a mix of Hindu and Muslim youths.
